Potholes are plentiful
In his State of the City Address last month, Ekurhuleni mayor Clr Mondli Gungubele promised to stamp out the menace of potholes in the region.
While some work has been done – evident from the newly laid patches of tar along many streets in Brakpan – the town’s roads are still riddled with the dangerous craters.
With the exception of two areas, the Herald found potholes in every suburb of Brakpan.
While Dalpark Proper and Dalpark Extension Five are free of potholes, the road surfaces are poor and in need of repair.
Hyland Street in Brakpan Central is the most pockmarked and the Herald counted more than 20 potholes of various sizes along this road.
According to a resident of the area, who declined to be named, the situation is a danger to motorists.
The resident also blamed the deterioration of the road on the metro’s lack of maintenance.
“It is obvious nothing has been done for months,” she said.
Derby Avenue is also in need of urgent attention and four potholes were spotted along this road.
Comment is awaited from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.
