It is time to vote

South Africans will be heading to the polls on Wednesday (May 7) as the day will see the election of a new National Assembly as well as a new Provincial Legislature in each province.

Posters depicting the parties contesting the elections can be found on almost every lamp-post in town.

Brakpan residents have also shown a huge interest in the forthcoming elections, with hundreds flocking to the polling stations during voter registration to ensure their names appeared on the voter’s roll.

Residents, who will cast their votes on Wednesday, have also been assured by the Brakpan SAPS that it will do everything in its power to prevent any unlawful incidents.

Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan Police Station commander said that the Brakpan SAPS is well prepared for election day.

”We have an operational plan in place to make to make sure that we can handle any incident that might occur on the day,” said Joubert.

“We urge the public to give their full cooperation on election day in order to ensure a free and fair election.”

Joubert added that the public should not hesitate to report any suspicious activities to the police immediately.

“Furthermore, we would like to send out a strong message that no crime or unlawful behaviour will be tolerated on election day.

Capt Joubert added that members of the SAPS will be present at all the stations thought out the town for as long as it might be necessary.

Residents who intend to vote on Wednesday can expect the following when they get to the voting station:
