Electical box vandalism is rife

The Herald has received comment from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality regarding open electrical boxes in Brakpan.

In our June 27 edition, it was reported that residents of Dalpark and other areas were concerned about the open electrical enclosures.

According to metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe, council is currently facing a challenge in the Brakpan area with the vandalism of electrical boxes.

“Sometimes thieves steal equipment out of the enclosures and, at other times, they steal the steel doors to sell for scrap,” he said.

“We are also facing a problem with meter readers not closing the doors of enclosures.

“We do our best to close these enclosures, which is indeed a temporary solution.

“Going forward, we are in a tender process to repair and replace these permanently.”
