Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend (August 22, 23 and 24):

Friday

No information pertaining to incidents that took place on Friday was received.

Saturday

A woman was robbed of her cellphone and jewellery by a man armed with a sharp object.

The woman was walking along Wenden Avenue, at about 11.40am, when she felt something sharp pressed against her back.

A man whispered to her to hand over her belongings.

She handed over her cellphone and was then made to take off her jewellery, including her wedding ring, earrings and wristwatch.

The robber fled on foot.

A silver Volkswagen Polo was stolen from the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre.

Three burglaries were reported.

These took place at addresses along Kitzinger Street, Masefield Street in Dalpark, and Satara Street in Leachville.

Cash, television sets, a laptop, sound system, video camera and games console were among the household items stolen.

A 37-year-old man was assaulted with a hammer on the doorstep of his home, in the Mkhancwa Village informal settlement, near Ergo.

The man had returned to his shack at about 9pm after visiting neighbours, and police reports indicate he had been home for about five minutes, when he went outside to fetch something.

As he opened the door, he was struck in the face with a hammer.

Nothing was stolen and two men were seen fleeing the scene.

The man, who sustained a cut above his left eye, was taken to the Pholosong Hospital.

A case of assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm has been opened at the Brakpan Police Station.

Sunday

A property in Lester Street, Brenthurst, was burgled of electrical tools, including a grinder, drill and sander.

The house is being renovated and is unoccupied.
