Help feed hungry families
Hundreds of Brakpan families have been able to stave off the hunger pains, thanks to the Brakpan Red Cross.
The organisation regularly supplies food to families in need through its feeding scheme.
The Brakpan Red Cross currently feeds 300 families — more than 700 people.
According to Collen Huma, manager at the society, each feeding day sees more people arriving at the organisation for assistance.
“There are even people coming to us from neighbouring towns such as Benoni, Springs and Nigel,” he said.
This year the last day of the feeding scheme will be Tuesday, December 9, and it will resume only on Tuesday, January 15, 2015.
During this time, many families will be without the organisation’s assistance.
The Red Cross hopes to hand out larger parcels on the last feeding day, to see people through this time, and is appealing to the Brakpan community for help.
Any items of non-perishable goods, tinned foods, pasta, instant soups, sugar, tea, coffee, mealie meal and soya mince will be gratefully received.
With Christmas in mind, donations of sweets, biscuits and cold drink will also be more than welcome.
Donations can be delivered to the Red Cross, which is situated at 8 Muir Avenue.
