Incredible year for local gymnasts

Members of the Brakpan-based Masters Gymnasts Club have had a successful competition year.

The club’s gymnasts competed throughout the year, in various competitions, from club to international level.

The young women’s pairs of Danica Smook and Cameron Mare, as well as Geraldine Durandt and Salome Havemann, took part in their first competitions this year and are showing good promise in acrobatic gymnastics.

The gymnasts competed at different club level competitions and at the Eastern Gauteng Acrobatic Gymnastics Championships.

The girls have qualified to represent the Eastern Gauteng region during the North Zone Championship on November 8.

The women’s pair of Charma du Plessis and Zahndri van Greune, as well as the men’s group of Jezri Krinsky, Keelan Krinsky, Gryphon Krinsky and Bongani Zim, took part in the annual South African Gymnastics Games in Belville, Cape Town in October and won their categories to become South African champions.

In order to compete at the SA Gymnastics Games the gymnasts had to go through various qualifying competitions.

“I am proud of our gymnasts,” said Dmitry Demianenko, head coach of the club.

“They have worked hard and have achieved great results.

“I have to mention that Bongani Zim took part in the Indoor Pacific Championships in the middle of the year, with Chelsea Mofsowitz, and they were gold medalists of this competition.

“Our women’s pair of Gemma Calitz and Taylor Ryan also won a gold medal.

“I would like to wish good luck to our young gymnasts in the Zone competition,” he added.
