Women receive holistic healing at women’s health dialogue

Women from different corners of life gathered for a Women’s Dialogue, hosted by the City of Ekurhuleni, last weekend, as part of their Women’s Month celebrations.

The dialogue, held in the DH Williams Hall, in Katlehong, and the Rabasotho Hall, in Tembisa, with the theme “The impact of HIV on women’s lives: weaving the stories of a woman’s life”, saw women reflecting on their lives and learning how to confront and deal with the trying circumstance in which they might find themselves.

Before the dialogue commenced, the women watched an informative video portraying different forms of abuse and various circumstances in which women find themselves.

“I knew of two forms of abuse, but today I’ve learnt that many women are subjected to many forms of abuse that often go unreported and untreated, because we don’t know our rights as women, or know that there are organisations like POWA who are there to help,” said one of the young woman, Thuli Mkwaye (24).

What may have seemed to be only a dialogue for learning and sharing turned into a therapeutic gathering as women of different ages and backgrounds empowered one another to stand firm and take charge of their lives in every way possible.
