Conmen arrested for fake notes
Three men were arrested on Wednesday evening, after being found in possession of counterfeit R100 notes.
Members of the EMPD Tracing Unit stopped a white VW Jetta with two suspicious-looking male occupants in Tsakane, at about 8pm.
On searching the Jetta, the Metro police came across 91 counterfeit R100 notes.
A third suspect was pointed out to the officers by the two suspects, which resulted in the recovery of another 200 fake R100 notes.

“Questioning of the trio resulted in them confessing that they swindle unsuspecting victims by exchanging the fake bank notes for real ones,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.
“The suspects also confessed to preying on pensioners, on their pay days, on the pretext of exchanging R200 notes for easier to use R100 notes,” added Kgasago.
In-depth investigations are underway to find out how and where the fake money is produced.
The three suspects, aged 37, 39 and 40, were taken to Tsakane Police Station and charged with counterfeiting bank notes.
They appeared in the Tsakane Magistrates Court on Thursday (November 12).
