Brakpan High celebrates good results
"Class of 2015 displayed a remarkable fighting spirit."
Brakpan High School’s matric class of 2015 attained an 86.4 per cent pass rate — a drop from last year’s 94 per cent.
Despite this, school principal Lucky Nkopane is delighted with the performance of the learners.
He believes the class of 2015 displayed a remarkable fighting spirit and resilience in what has been a challenging academic year for the institution.
“Our results have sustained the quality that has been our trademark for years,” said Nkopane.
“We pride ourselves with the fact that 185 learners passed matric at our school in 2015.
“There has been a significant increase in the number of distinctions in accounting and business studies.
“There has been a 98 per cent pass rate in accounting, which is regarded as a difficult subject at the moment.
“We have again attained a 100 per cent pass rate in computer applications technology and tourism.”
Ten learners each achieved three distinctions or more and 50 learners qualified to study at university.
“We have made an impact in the subjects that are perceived to be difficult,” said Nkopane.
“Our science and mathematics yielded a considerable number of distinctions.
“I am delighted with the performance of our learners and the dedication of our teachers.
“Our teachers put in a lot of effort and have shown a lot of depth in content knowledge on the subjects they teach.
“Our sustained remarkable academic performance can be attributed to the teamwork that is displayed by the stakeholders at the institution.
“The parents and educators cooperate to the benefit of learners.”
Nkopane thanked the Afrisun Trust and Carnival City for their continued support of the Sci-Com Saturday School project that continues to support and develop mathematics, sciences and commerce learners from Brakpan High School and all secondary schools in the Ekurhuleni region.
The Saturday School is held at Brakpan High School, along Porter Avenue, and classes resume on February 6.
