Being noisy can get you arrested

Disturbance of the peace complaints can be reported any time and are not restricted to certain hours.

Brakpan police have urged residents to be considerate of their neighbours, following an increase in disturbance of the peace complaints.

Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan Police Station commander, told the Herald that the station receives disturbance of the peace complaints on a regular basis.

“We recently received several complaints from residents of Tweedy Park and the surrounding area about persistent loud music and the constant revving of cars,” said Joubert.

He explained that police have the authority to arrest offenders.

“This is also not restricted to music and revving cars, and can include shouting, singing and operating machinery,” he added.

Complaints can be reported any time and are not restricted to certain hours.

If the police are called a warning will be issued.

If they are called again, for the same disturbance, the police have the authority to confiscate the items which are causing the noise from the premises, and the offenders will have to open a case in court to reclaim the items.

A docket can be handed over by the police to a senior prosecutor, who will decide whether to prosecute.
