Garden goes nuts after rain

A garden enthusiast from Brakpan was relieved after the much-needed rain that recently swept over Gauteng.

Nick Amiras (79) showed the Herald all the fruit trees in his garden and was especially ecstatic about their olive trees.

“After the rain, I couldn’t believe how beautiful all the trees and plants are,” said Nick.

“I enjoy gardening and in the last twenty years, since I retired, I’ve put so much time and love into my garden.”

Walking around in the garden, the Herald noticed more than five different types of fruit trees.

“We save by creating our own produce and products from our garden. We even have our own nut trees,” Nick said proudly.

“My wife, Anne, and I enjoy making products from our garden and giving these to our family, friends and others.”

Nick added that last year they filled about six large bottles with produce from their olive trees.
