Mayor announces single salary structure for council employees

“Equal pay for work of equal value.”

Ekurhuleni mayor Clr Mzwandile Masina yesterday (Wednesday) announced the approval by council of the Ekurhuleni classic salary scale.

This puts employees on a single salary structure, which according to the metro, affirms “equal pay for work of equal value.”

The City comes from an era where eleven salary scales of former towns were used, which saw inequalities and workers not being remunerated in accordance to their work contribution.

“This historical decision by council gives each and every worker a competitive edge in the labour market,” said Masina, addressing thousands of employees at the Boksburg Stadium.

“We must attract and retain skills in our city and this is a competitive point of departure.”

The City, through the new administration, is working towards a one city identity.

Whilst historically the city has nine towns, the aim is to move towards a global city region.

The metro states that employees of Ekurhuleni view this is a victory for not only them but the city.
