Easter weekend crime round-up

The driver of a silver Volkswagen Polo Cross was hijacked by bogus police officers.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the Easter weekend:

• Friday – Two men robbed a shop along Prince George Avenue.

The robbers, one of whom was armed with a gun while the other was brandishing a knife, entered the store at about 7.30pm and threatened the cashier.

They fled with cash, cigarettes, bars of chocolate and a cellphone.

* A woman was robbed of her belongings by a group of men after boarding a taxi along Elsburg Road, in Dalpark, to Tsakane.

The victim and a male passenger got into the taxi at about 7.10pm and paid the driver.

After the taxi pulled off, two men demanded the woman’s handbag.

She handed it over and the men searched it, taking two bank cards and some cash.

They then searched the woman and took her cellphone.

The men assaulted the male passenger when he was unable to give them money.

The victims were dropped off along Lemmer Road, in Vulcania, and the taxi drove off.

* Two break-ins took place at separate addresses along Voortrekker Road.

Cash and jewellery were stolen from one residence, while cash, a television set and a games console were stolen from another.

* Two computers, groceries and other goods were stolen during a burglary at a property in Anker Street, Dalpark.

• Saturday – The driver of a silver Volkswagen Polo Cross was hijacked by bogus police officers along Denne Road, in Rand Collieries.

The ‘officers’, who were travelling in a white vehicle with blue lights pulled the driver over at about 10.30pm.

Another white car with blue lights also stopped.

The officers told the victim his vehicle was stolen and that he was to accompany them.

The men were in full police uniform and also had vests with the word police emblazoned across the front.

The victim was led to the vehicle parked behind his Polo and was told to get inside.

He was forced to sit in the backseat with his head between his legs.

The victim was searched and robbed of his cellphone and wristwatch.

The officers drove around with the victim for a short while and then dropped him off.

* A woman was robbed by two men after catching a taxi from Station Road.

The incident took place at about 7.30pm along Goods Road.

One of the men suddenly attacked the woman, telling her she must be raped and killed.

The woman pleaded for her life and told the men they could have all of her belongings.

The victim was let go after the men took her cellphone, tekkies and R100.

* A man was stabbed and robbed while travelling by taxi to Tsakane.

The victim boarded a taxi from Station Road at about 8.30pm and was shortly thereafter confronted by one of the other passengers who was armed with a knife.

The robber took the man’s bag, which contained two cellphones, his bank card and R1 000.

The victim was stabbed, but managed to jump from the moving vehicle and escape.

He sought help at a petrol station along Denne Road, in Vulcania.

* Four burglaries took place.

The break-ins were reported at addresses along Glamorgan Avenue and Van der Walt Street, in Kenleaf, Prince George Avenue, in Brenthurst, and De Kock Street, in Vulcania.

Stolen goods include tools, a games console, two laptops, a television set, jewellery and clothing.

* A fire extinguisher was stolen from a truck parked along Taft Avenue.

A suspect was arrested and detained.

* A white Isuzu bakkie was stolen from an address along Link Road, in Dalpark.

• Sunday – Two break-ins were reported.

Jewellery was stolen from a home along Aldred Street, in Brenthurst, while a television set and other household items were stolen from a  property in Germains Avenue.

A silver Mazda 3 was also stolen from the Germains Avenue address.

* A woman was raped in the veld near Tinus de Jongh Street, in Van Eck Park, by a man she had met at a local entertainment venue hours earlier.

The man offered to let the woman sleep at his house after she was unable to get hold of the person from whom she was supposed to get a ride home.

The woman declined and the man then offered to book her a hotel room, to which she agreed.

After leaving together in the man’s car at about 11.30pm, the man told the woman to co-operate with him and threatened to shoot her.

He drove the victim to the secluded area and raped her.

She was later found walking along a nearby road by two paramedics passing by.

* An armed robber stole a cellphone from a female motorist along Noel Gould Street, in Kenleaf.

The woman was stationary at the traffic lights at about noon, when the robber approached her vehicle.

He pointed a gun at her through the window and demanded her cellphone.

The man fled on foot.

• Monday – A petrol station along Rangeview Road, in Dalpark, was robbed at about 8.20pm by three armed men.

One of the robbers threatened to shoot the cashier and demanded cash from the till.

The robbers fled with money, cigarettes and bottles of cold drink.

* Two homes were burgled.

A pair of tekkies, a laptop and digital camera were stolen from a home along Mulberry Avenue, in Leachville, and a television set, jewellery and clothing were stolen from an address along Pythian Street, in Brakpan North.

• Other

• Thursday – A business situated along Rennie Road, in Withok Estates, was robbed by three armed men.

The gang confronted security guards on the premises at about 1am.

The trio stole cash, airtime, a laptop and modem, a camera, DVD player and two television sets.

* A female motorist was robbed of her cellphone while stationary at the intersection of Denne Road and Van der Merwe Street.

A man pointed a gun at the woman through the driver’s side window and demanded her cellphone.

The incident took place at about 8.50am.

* The driver of a white Scania truck was hijacked along Heidelberg Road.

The man pulled over on the side of the road at about 11am to secure straps on the trailer, and noticed a red Volkswagen Golf with three occupants also stopping.

Two men alighted the vehicle and threatened the driver with a gun.

The driver was forced into the Golf and his hands were tied with shoelaces.

He was dropped off near an open field and sought help at the Tsakane Police Station.

The truck’s tracking system indicated the vehicle was parked in Wadeville, Germiston..

At the time of publishing, it was not known whether the truck had been recovered.

* Two men robbed a petrol station along Prince George Avenue.

The robbers entered the shop on the premises at about 9am and threatened the cashier with a gun.

The robbers fled with cash, cigarettes and washing powder.

* Three burglaries were reported.

These took place at addresses along Floors Road, in Withok Estates, Glamorgan Avenue and Voortrekker Road.
Jewellery, bedding and television sets were stolen.

• Wednesday – A silver Volkswagen Polo was stolen from an address along Devon Street, in Dalview.

* A shop along Station Road was broken into.

Cash, cigarettes and groceries were stolen.
