Mkhankwa man dies after allegedly trying to illegally connect electricity

A postmortem examination will determine the exact cause of death.

An inquest docket has been opened by Brakpan police after a Mkhankwa Village man died while he was allegedly trying to connect electricity illegally.

According to information received from the local SAPS, the 26-year-old man and three others had reportedly tried to connect wires to an electricity pole situated in the veld near the informal settlement, last night (Wednesday).

It is believed their illegal activities were disrupted when a vehicle drove towards them and they were forced to abandon their plans.

The men all ran away, leaving one of their accomplices atop the pole.

The illegal and dangerous practice poses a risk to anyone walking in this area.

Police claim that one of the men returned to the site to look for his companion, but only found his shoes.

The same man went back to the area this morning (Thursday) and found his friend’s body under a tree.

The deceased’s head was partially submerged in a pool of water.

The man’s family had visited the Brakpan Police Station earlier to report him missing when they were notified about the body.

A postmortem examination will determine the exact cause of death.
