A call by the Herald for residents to submit questions to Brakpan Police Station commander, Brig Fredl Jonck, has been met with an apathetic response.

Residents were invited to submit any police or crime-related questions for publication along with the brigadier’s responses.

Five questions were received, two of which were rejected because compulsory information (full names, addresses and contact details) was excluded.

Herewith are the questions and answers:

Q: I would like to know why nothing is being done to the drug smugglers at the corner of Wenden Avenue and High Road. (Submitted by Dino Amiras).

A: Arrests for drugs are made within the area on a weekly basis. Weekly operations are done by our local task team and recently a kingpin dealer was arrested with his wife in Dalpark (Herald, June 16, ‘Dalpark couple caught with R1-m in drugs‘). Without any valid and tangible information, however, the SAPS cannot act because at the end of the day the docket will not be placed on the court roll.

V: Ek woon in ‘n kompleks.

Q: I would like to inquire about my case, 186/08/2016. To date, I have not received any report back. I have called the detective branch, visited the old office and the new offices. I have received no follow-up or outcome on this matter. (Submitted by Sandy Hattingh Ngwenya).

A: Sandy Hattingh Ngwenya is the victim for the case in question (reckless and negligent driving) and the state is the complainant. The docket is ready for trial on July 26 and the investigating officer, Sgt Sizakhele Hlatswayo, will subpoena the victim in due course.
