Brakpan police have warned motorists to be vigilant following an increase in smash-and-grabs at the Voortrekker Road subway.
Two cases were reported to the local SAPS last week.
The first incident took place on Wednesday at about 6.45pm when the victim was stationary at the traffic lights.
A man approached the car and hit the passenger side window with his elbow.
The window failed to break so the man hit it again with his hand, shattering the glass.
He grabbed the victim’s cellphone and charger and ran away.
The following evening, at 7.30pm, a passenger in a stationary vehicle at the traffic lights was robbed by a man who smashed the front passenger window and grabbed the cellphone from her hand.
Motorists are advised to remove valuables from the vehicle or ensure items are kept out of sight in the boot or, at the very least, under the seat.
Popular targeted items include purses, handbags, wallets, laptop bags, briefcases, backpacks, shopping bags, cellphones, MP3 players and tablets.
