A total of 123 learners passed matric at Brakpan High School with several of them performing exceptionally well and attaining a number of distinctions.
“The results at Brakpan High School are an indication of a concerted effort by all stakeholders and educators in particular to make a difference in the lives of young South Africans who grace the corridors of this institution,” said the principal of the school, Lucky Nkopane.
“I am humbled by the contribution of the parents and the governing body as well as the school management team for their role in this good performance of learners.
“We are sending several learners to university again this year and this remains a humbling experience in the life of any principal and staff,” added Nkopane.
“We continued to perform exceptionally well in subjects like computer applications technology, where we have attained 100 per cent pass rate for the past five years.
“Our strong subjects are tourism, geography and consumer studies, where we attain 100 per cent every year. Our consistent 100 per cent pass rate in history is also worth noting as a strength of our performance in these examinations.
“Our science subjects continue to be the strength of the institution. We have consistently done well in physical sciences and life sciences and we have bagged a fair number of distinctions and level five and level six achievement for our individual learners.

“We have a 96 per cent pass rate in accounting and this is good considering that the national pass rate for accounting has dropped.
“Generally we have a strong showing in the economic and management sciences because a number of our learners have performed exceptionally well in business economics also.
“We have performed just above 90 per cent and this gives a lot of room for improvement in the 2018 NSC examinations.
“We will continue to utilise the services of our sponsor, Carnival City, in the concerted effort to improve mathematics, life sciences and physical sciences as well as economic science.
“Carnival City sponsors our Saturday school and winter holiday programme and we are grateful for their continued support to Brakpan High by utilising Saturdays and winter holidays,” said Nkopane.
Registration for Saturday school starts on January 20 at 8am.
