Daily crime watch

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past 24 hours (February 1 to 2):

Cases reported:

• Business robbery: 2
• Common assault: 2
• Shoplifting: 1
• Fraud: 1
• Residential burglary: 1
• Business burglary: 2
• Theft from motor vehicle: 3
• Theft: 3
• Reckless driving: 1

Arrests:

• Shoplifting: 1
• Assault on police official: 1

Business robbery:

• A security guard was shot in the stomach during a robbery at a Kingsway Avenue gambling establishment this morning (Friday).

An armed man attempted to gain access to the premises at about 2am and demanded the guard’s panic button.

A struggle ensued and the victim was shot. He was taken to the Far East Rand Hospital for medical treatment.

The robber and an accomplice fled with several cellphones and cash.

• Computer monitors and TVs were stolen from a Witpoort Estates business yesterday morning (Thursday).

Six men entered the Denne Road premises at around 2am and tied up a security guard.

They took the guard’s cellphone, hand radio and pepperspray.

Burglary:

• Denne Road, Witpoort Estates (business).

The break-in took place on Wednesday.

Stolen: Computers and other office equipment. Two vehicles on the premises were also broken into and a radio and two GPS devices were stolen.

• Kitzinger Avenue (business).

The shop was burgled on Wednesday.

Stolen: Cartons of cigarettes.

• Lark Street in Anzac.

The residence was burgled yesterday.

Stolen: Groceries, a gas stove, DVD player and clothes.

Theft from motor vehicle:

• Tyres and mags were stolen from a bakkie parked along Collins Street in Brenthurst yesterday.

• On Wednesday, tyres were stolen from a truck parked along Koot Street in Withok Estates.

• A radio was stolen from a car parked at an address along Kingsway Avenue on Wednesday.
