Afternoon school programme a hit

As part of their continued efforts to make schooling an exciting experience for learners and provide a holistic education programme, Dalpark Private School has introduced a compulsory afternoon programme.

The programme ties in with the school’s Higher Order Thinking (Hot) system which was introduced last year to teach learners to “collaborate, use critical thinking and to communicate”.

Learners go to classes of their choice from 2pm to 3pm and can choose from dance, arts and crafts, reading and poetry, coding and robotics, engineering, cooking, choir, marimbas, singing, book club and sport.

Dalpark Private School learner Mbali Mazibuko has fun in the kitchen during her afternoon cooking class.

The programme runs from Monday to Thursday and learners get to choose an activity for each day.

Learners can be exposed to activities not covered by the classroom syllabus and the idea is to have an hour of fun.

The programme also complements their existing Personal Development Programme (PDP) which comprises two one-hour periods per cycle where learners do activities such as woodwork, cooking, coding, art, extra maths, extra English, extra Afrikaans, Bible studies and engineering.

Closer to examination time, the afternoon period will be used as a compulsory study period where learners will be able to study in groups under the supervision of their educators.
