‘Husking’ for trouble

Brakpan police saw straight through the corny cover-up.

Three Malawian nationals found themselves on the wrong side of the law when they were found in possession of suspected stolen toiletries.

Tins of deodorant and bottles of body lotion were found concealed in mealie sacks the trio were transporting in plain sight on the back of a bakkie.

Mealies had been placed on top of the bags for added effect.

“Members were recently patrolling along Station Road when they noticed a white Isuzu bakkie loaded with mealies at the corner of Derby Avenue,” said Capt Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for Brakpan police.

“They searched the bags only to find that they did not contain mealies, but lotion and deodorant.

“The members requested an invoice for the goods from the bakkie’s occupants, but they didn’t have one.”

According to van Staad, further investigations revealed that a truck with a cargo of toiletries was hijacked in Villiers, in the Free State, last month.

“The suspects, aged 28, 30 and 35, were arrested and charged with possession of stolen property,” she added.
