Man nabbed for possession of unlicensed firearm

A Tsakane man was arrested on Friday after police found an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in his possession.

According to EMPD media liaison officer Kobeli Mokheseng, the EMPD’s Public Order Policing Unit acted on a tip-off received from members of the public about a man walking around with a gun.

“Officers went to the given address on Juluga Street at 3.23am and the 39-year-old male was cornered,” he said.

Police found a 9mm pistol with its serial numbers filed off and eight live rounds of ammunition.

The man was arrested and detained at the Tsakane Police Station on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“The firearm will be scrutinised further to check if it was previously used in the commission of criminal activities,” added Mokheseng.
