Long weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – Four burglaries occurred.

The break-ins took place at addresses along Queen Avenue, Prince George Avenue in Brenthurst, Mynhardt Avenue in Minnebron and Hansen Street in Withok Estates.

TVs and other household items were stolen.

* A man was robbed of his wallet by a pickpocket in the CBD.

The incident took place at the corner of Prince George Avenue and Voortrekker Road at around noon.

The wallet contained the victim’s ID book, driver’s licence, Sassa card, bank card and some cash.

* The female driver of a silver Toyota Hilux bakkie was robbed of her vehicle at gunpoint along Hastings Avenue.

The victim was confronted by a lone hijacker at about 11.40pm as she was leaving a friend’s house.

Before driving off in the bakkie, the hijacker fired one shot at the victim, which missed its target.

• Saturday – A case of attempted murder was opened following a shooting at the corner of Prince George Avenue and Victoria Avenue at 10.30pm.

The victim told police he was sitting in his vehicle when three men, one of whom was armed with a gun, approached the car and told him to get out.

When the victim refused, the gunman opened fire.

The victim drove off and escaped unharmed.

* A Toyota Conquest was stolen from an address along Zeeman Street in Brenthurst.

* Kitchen appliances, laptops, jewellery, bedding and a washing machine were stolen from a home in Station Road.

• Sunday – A generator and two batteries were stolen from a truck parked along Hospital Road, Brakpan North.

* Tools were stolen during a break-in at a business in Van der Walt Street, Dalview.

• Monday – A home in Gardiner Avenue was burgled of a DVD player and other valuables.

Other cases reported:

• Thursday – A white Isuzu bakkie was stolen from Mall@Carnival. It was later recovered in Katlehong.
