Young bloods encouraged to donate
Only half an hour of someone’s time can make a difference in someone’s life.
The new year comes with new challenges for the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) as the use and demand for blood and blood products increases.
This means that in 2019 the SANBS will be required to procure more blood. Their primary focus this year will be the youth, by getting them to understand the importance of regular, safe blood donation.
The SANBS will be hosting educational sessions at secondary schools during the year to encourage safe lifestyle choices and promote blood donation.
Only half an hour of someone’s time can make a difference in someone’s life.
You can donate blood or platelets.
Both donations require the donor to meet the following requirements: weigh 50kg or more, are 16 years or older, lead a sexually safe lifestyle and must have eaten within the last four hours of donation.

Blood can be donated every 56 days.
Donors are encouraged to donate a minimum of four times a year and if this is achieved, donors normally receive a commitment gift on their fourth donation.
Platelets can be donated every 28 days.
The NG Kerk Brakpan-Oos will be hosting a blood drive on March 1 from 3pm to 7pm.
The church is situated on the corner of Boundary Road and Lapping Street in Brenthurst.
