DA councillor committed to service delivery project

Pretorius hopes that the installation of the speed humps demonstrates to residents throughout Ekurhuleni that the signing of petitions is not a fruitless exercise.

Much-needed speed humps have finally been installed along Queen Street in Brakpan Central, bringing much relief to residents.

Continuous complaints were received from residents of the street, in which old age homes and churches are located.

“The road did not have proper traffic calming measures, which rendered it incredibly dangerous and a safety hazard for the community,” said DA councillor for Ward 97 in Brakpan, Brandon Pretorius.

“Desperate and frustrated community members ended up calling on me, as their ward councillor, for assistance.

“Upon listening to their concerns, I acted immediately by sending an urgent petition to the City of Ekurhuleni to build speed humps on Queen Street, as a matter of urgency and priority.

“I submitted the petition in a council meeting last year and I am excited to announce that the residents’ pleas have finally been heard and the speed humps have been installed.”

Pretorius hopes that the installation of the speed humps demonstrates to residents throughout Ekurhuleni that the signing of petitions is not a fruitless exercise, but rather a tool to hold the government accountable.

“We commend the roads department, as these speed humps will go a long way in ensuring the safety of residents,” he added.

“We will also continue to listen, address and stand up for the rights of the people in this city and stay committed to the fight for service delivery and ensure, as far as possible, that service delivery requirements are budgeted for.”
