According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past 24 hours (August 28 to 29):

Cases reported:

• Tampering with infrastructure: 1
• Theft: 2
• Theft from motor vehicle: 1
• Possession of drugs: 3
• Attempted theft of motor vehicle: 1
• Possession of housebreaking implements: 1
• Speeding: 4
• Fraud: 1
• Attempted robbery with other weapon: 1
• Reckless driving: 1
• Possession of vehicle breaking implements: 1

Arrests:

• Attempted robbery: 1
• Possession of drugs: 3
• Attempted theft of motor vehicle: 1
• Residential burglary: 1
• Possession of housebreaking implements: 1

Attempted armed robbery:

• A woman was held at knifepoint by a lone robber, who demanded her handbag.

The victim was walking along Escombe Avenue around 9am yesterday (Wednesday) when the man confronted her.

Her screams alerted police officers patrolling in the area and a suspect was arrested.

Attempted theft of motor vehicle:

• A gold Mazda (model not provided) parked at the corner of Prince George Avenue and Queen Avenue was broken into and its ignition tampered with.

The incident took place yesterday.

Theft from motor vehicle:

• On Tuesday, a car parked at an address along Pitt Street in Brenthurst was stripped of its wheels.
