Flying squad makes 71 arrests in December

From December 1 to 31, Benoni Flying Squad members arrested 71 suspects and recovered 32 motor vehicles and four firearms.

Forty people were arrested for crimes including possession of stolen and counterfeit goods, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, illegal mining, possession of explosives, hijacking, theft, malicious damage to property, armed robbery, trespassing, reckless and negligent driving, bribery, attempted murder and robbery.

Eighteen were arrested for possession of hijacked and stolen vehicles during the recovery of 32 motor vehicles.

Two were arrested for possession of four unlicensed firearms and 16 rounds of ammunition.

Eleven were arrested for possession of the following drugs – crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, mandrax and dagga, with an estimated street value of R8 000.

Property recovered, excluding vehicles, is estimated at R738 500.

Over 10 500 people and 4342 vehicles were searched.

These successes were achieved around Ekurhuleni in areas including Brakpan, Daveyton, Isando, Kempton Park, Benoni, Tembisa, Primrose, Windmill Park, Vosloorus, KwaThema, Ivory Park, Crystal Park, Boksburg, Putfontein, Springs, Brackendown, Reiger Park, Olifantsfontein, Petit, Etwatwa, Norkem Park, Rabie Ridge and even other areas such as Kagiso, Alexandra, Johannesburg, Delmas and Lyttleton.
