Grocery thieves get a taste of the law

The arrested duo were detained at the Tsakane Police Station.

Two men were arrested in Labore, Brakpan, on Tuesday afternoon, last week, after they were caught offloading suspected stolen food products.

The groceries are valued at R500 000.

EMPD officers from the Tsakane precinct made their way to Newton Street at 2.45pm following a tip-off.

When they arrived, they found five men transferring goods from a parked white Isuzu truck to a building.

Three of the men managed to evade capture, but two, aged 34 and 40, were apprehended.

EMPD and SAPS officers uncovered boxes containing products such as tuna, jelly and energy drinks.

“The local SAPS was summoned and not long after, a team from a vehicle tracking company, following coordinates of the stolen goods, showed up,” said EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng.

The tracking company reported that a truck transporting food products was robbed earlier and found abandoned without the goods along the N3 highway.

The arrested duo were detained at the Tsakane Police Station and face charges of being in possession of suspected stolen goods.
