UPDATE: Man shot dead, three arrested following business robbery

It is believed five to six men robbed the local business.

Three men were arrested and one was fatally shot following a robbery at Mega Liquors yesterday afternoon (Thursday).

Capt Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for the Brakpan SAPS, told the Herald local police responded to the incident around 4pm.

“On arrival the suspects were running in different directions and shooting at police,” she said.

“Police gave chase and the suspects were stopped at different locations along Main Reef Road and New Kleinfontein Road.

“One suspect was shot and declared dead on the scene.

“Two other suspects with multiple injuries were found in possession of stolen cash and liquor taken from the store. ”

Another man was also apprehended and found in possession of a pistol and ammunition.

It is believed five to six men robbed the local business.

They took liquor and an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot.

The arrested men, aged 27, 31 and 35, are under police guard.

Acting station commander Col Julias Masiye applauded the Crime Prevention members and members from the EMPD for their swift response.
