Red Cross reaches out to the hungry

The local society relies on donations from businesses and the public to assist those in need.

Staff and volunteers from the Brakpan Red Cross handed out 100 food parcels to destitute residents of the town on Saturday morning.

According to Brakpan Red Cross manager Colin Huma, there has been an enormous increase in the number of people in need of help.

“The poverty rate in the town has escalated drastically because of the impact of Covid-19,” he said, adding that many people have lost their jobs.

A total of 100 food parcels were distributed to destitute residents on Saturday morning.

“Our work never stops. We have been able to assist 100 families thanks to our donors.”
