Weekend crime round-up

The driver of a black Mercedes-Benz was hijacked along the N17 highway, near the Dalpark Toll Plaza, after being pulled over by bogus police officers.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A man was robbed of R50 000 cash and his iPhone outside a nail salon along Van der Walt Road in Dalview.

The incident took place at around 12.30pm while the man was waiting for his wife.

He was confronted by two men who held him at gunpoint and threatened to shoot him.

A case of armed robbery is under investigation.

* A white Isuzu bakkie was stolen from Dirk van der Hoff Street in Rand Collieries.

* A home in Koos Vorster Avenue, Minnebron, was burgled of a gaming console and cash.

• Saturday – The driver of a black Mercedes-Benz was hijacked along the N17 highway, near the Dalpark Toll Plaza, after being pulled over by bogus police officers.

The victim was instructed to pull over by the occupants of an unidentified vehicle with flashing blue lights at around 8.30pm.

After stopping on the side of the road, he was approached by three men, one of whom asked for his driver’s licence.

The “officer” then reached into the Mercedes-Benz and turned off the ignition.

The victim was forced into the backseat and his head was covered with a jacket.

After being driven around for hours, he was dropped off in an area unfamiliar to him and he sought help at a nearby residence.

In addition to the Mercedes-Benz, the victim was robbed of his cellphone and wallet.

* A motorbike was stolen from an address along Scott Street in Brenthurst.

* A white Nissan Juke was stolen from Elm Avenue in Anzac.

The vehicle’s keys were taken from inside the house, along with a handbag.

A car battery was stolen from another vehicle parked on the property.

* Laptops, a camera and other valuables were stolen during a break-in at a home along Regents Avenue.

• Sunday – A Station Road bar was robbed by two men during the early hours of the morning.

The robbers entered the drinking establishment at 2.30am and threatened staff and patrons with guns.

Bottles of whisky and brandy, R80 000 in cash and cellphones were stolen.

* Speakers, an amplifier and a car radio were stolen from a vehicle parked along Victoria Avenue.
