Power restored to Brakpan North

Pretorius thanked the Eskom technicians who worked round the clock to ensure power was restored before Friday.

The everyday sounds of suburban life in Brakpan North were replaced with the constant humming and droning of generators over the last few days.

After being without electricity since Sunday afternoon, power was restored to the area this morning (Wednesday).

This has been a major disruption for residents, who normally escape power cuts due to Brakpan North’s electricity being supplied from a different point and not the Van Eck Park Substation.

Many have complained about the waste of refrigerated and frozen goods, while others running businesses in the area or from home, or working from home due to Covid-19, have bemoaned the inconvenience.

Some couldn’t stand the thought of another braai for dinner or ordering more takeaways, which can be a pricey endeavour.

For those who own a generator, the cost of fuel to keep the lights on was an additional expense.

For Brandon Pretorius, DA ward councillor for the area, the main issue is the construction work taking place along Hospital Road and surrounding area. It is believed this was the cause of the damaged cables.

He has requested an investigation be launched to ensure the persons responsible are held accountable.
