Brakpan victorious in inaugural tournament

Netball players took to the courts for the Winter Bash tournament on Monday.

Brakpan Netball Club won the women’s section of the Winter Bash, which the club hosted on Monday at the Brakpan Sports Grounds.

Brakpan was too strong for the competition as they outplayed all their rivals in a tournament that featured 27 clubs.

Super Gals finished second while K&T Netball Club were third.

The mixed tournament was won by the recently established local club Villians. Blue Diamonds came second while Babcock was third.

There were also prizes for the top shooters, won by Nicole “Chappies” Gertenbach (Villians), Brandon van Wyk (Villians) and Joanny Strydom (Fast 7).

Unicorns won the best-dressed team award while K&T showed the best team spirit.

“We really would like to thank every club that joined our tournament and made the day possible, it was a big success,” said Brakpan Netball Club’s president Melissa Olsen.

“And you can be sure that Winter Bash is now Brakpan Netball Club’s thing every year.”

Olsen was grateful to all who helped with preparations for the tournament.

“We would also like to thank all the companies who sponsored the tournament,” she said.
