Spaza shop owner gunned down

The shop owner was shot and killed during a robbery.

Cases of business robbery and murder are under investigation after a spaza shop owner in the Anzac informal settlement was fatally shot last Friday evening.

The settlement is situated behind the Royal Oak Country Club.

According to Brakpan SAPS spokesperson Captain Pearl van Staad, two men entered the shop at around 21:00.

“One had a handgun and fired a shot into the air,” she said.

A man working behind the counter ran out the back door to hide and heard several more shots fired inside the shop.

“After a while, he returned to the shop and found the owner with several gunshot wounds, laying face down. He was shot from behind in the upper body,” said van Staad.

The robbers took an unknown amount of cash from the shop.
