Community concerns addressed at stakeholders meeting

Residents were encouraged to continue fighting crime together with police.

The Brakpan SAPS monthly stakeholders meeting was held in the Rio Rooms at Carnival City last Wednesday.

Local police management met with community members, ward councillors, law enforcement agencies, the security industry and other stakeholders to find a solution to the high level of crime in Brakpan.

Points of discussion included illegal dumping, by-law operations, tampering with infrastructure, illegal immigrants and general crime.

Feedback was also given on recent music festival events and high-density operations conducted in Brakpan.

Input was received from various role players including the EMPD regarding the Weltevreden landfill site.

Metro police will continue to monitor the area for illegal dumping and by-law compliance. Ward councillors added that a clean-up campaign in the area is ongoing.

The EMPD also touched on the issue of load-shedding, which causes congestion at intersections, and reported members have been monitoring traffic during peak hours.

Lieutenant Colonel Anneline Naude, on behalf of station commander Brigadier Fredl Jonck, thanked those in attendance and encouraged everyone to continue fighting the scourge of crime.
