Online buyers beware

Local SAPS report an increase in fraud cases.

Brakpan police have warned residents to be cautious when buying goods advertised on social media and classified online sites.

This follows an increase in cases reported to local SAPS where people have been scammed out of large sums of money after being defrauded by online sellers.

Once payment has been made, the seller disappears and the buyer never receives their purchased item.

According to acting Brakpan SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Faith Ntuli, recent victims have been swindled out of money for high-end items such as cars, and even puppies.

Ntuli advised buyers to view the item in person before paying any money.
