CoE buys new waste trucks

The city budgeted R40m to replenish the waste fleet.

The City of Ekurhuleni is ready to tackle the waste removal services bottlenecks across the region after buying 12 new waste trucks, four of which were released on Tuesday morning.

The CoE should receive another eight trucks next month. The city budgeted R40-million to replenish the waste fleet.

The new vehicles include 10 rear-end loaders and two front-end loaders.

MMC for Environment Resources and Eunice Matloga said the city was on course to normalise waste removal services.

“We purchased these waste trucks to address the backlog of waste removal in the city and also to strengthen our internal resources to reduce the reliance on service providers,” said Matloga.
