Suburbs hit with power outage after load-shedding

Several areas are without power again.

Power problems persist for some households and businesses in certain parts of Brakpan after power was not restored after load-shedding last night (February 12).

According to Ward 105 Clr Annette Verster, the town is running on only one transformer following the fire at the Van Eck Substation last week, which saw large areas of Brakpan without electricity for days.

Verster stated the areas currently without power, which include Kenleaf, Sonneveld, Rand Collieries, Minnebron, Denneoord and neighbouring suburbs, were connected to the Dalpark Ext 5 Substation after the fire.

“When the power is switched back on by Eskom, the voltage is high and causes an overload,” she said.

“We have requested Eskom not to load-shed until our substation is properly functional and are awaiting an answer.”

Verster confirmed the energy department is aware of the current outage.
