Suspected hijackers nabbed after tip-off

The three men face a slew of charges.

Brakpan SAPS and other law enforcers apprehended three suspected hijackers on February 20 following a tip-off.

According to police, the team acted swiftly after receiving a live location of a hijacked goods truck in the Old Brakpan Location (Mgongo informal settlement), which was where the truck driver and his crew had been dropped off.

Members cornered the truck on Gordon Street where one suspect fled the scene while the other two were apprehended.

EMPD members gave chase and caught the third suspect nearby. Upon searching the truck, a firearm was recovered.

The victims provided information about the goods, valued at around R20 000, which had been off-loaded in the informal settlement. The team members were able to seize the goods.

The arrested trio, aged between 34 and 40, were charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of stolen property and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Upon detention, the suspects were interrogated and one of them confessed to being an employee of the goods company.

Brakpan SAPS station commander Brigadier Fredl Jonck applauded the members for a sterling job.
