Weekend crime round-up
An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from August 2 to 4.
The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:
Friday – A TV and a laptop were stolen during a break-in at a home along Germains Avenue.
• Tools were stolen from a home in Ellis Street, Sherwood Gardens. A car parked on the premises was also broken into and tools and other valuables were taken from inside the vehicle.
• A Station Road business was burgled of cellphones, a laptop, speakers and other goods.
• A white Nissan 1400 was stolen from Mitchell Crescent in Brenthurst. Another vehicle on the property was broken into and a car jack, R400 cash and a cellphone were stolen.
• Electrical wiring and geyser and water pipes with a combined value of around R55 000 were stolen from a vacant property in Milner Avenue.
• A handbag was stolen from a car parked at the corner of High Street and Queen Avenue. Among the bag’s contents were bank cards, cash, keys and a cellphone.
• Staff at a Kitzinger Avenue shop were threatened at gunpoint by two robbers.
The robbers entered the store at about 12:15 and claimed to be interested in buying a pair of shoes in the display window.
A salesman accompanied them outside to look at the shoes. As they made their way back inside, the men paused by the door and pulled out firearms.

They cocked the weapons and told staff, “This is a daylight robbery.” Staff were instructed to lie on the floor and the robbers emptied the tills.
One staff member was kicked by the robbers when they saw her press the panic button. The robbers took the panic button from her and also helped themselves to her cellphone.
The pair then fled the scene. A business robbery case is under investigation.
Saturday – A white Toyota Hilux was stolen from an address along Pienaar Street in Brenthurst.
• Copper pipes were stolen from a home in Prince George Avenue, Brenthurst.
• A vehicle parked at a residence in Strange Avenue was stripped of its wheels.
Sunday – A business in Farquharson Road, Rand Collieries, was burgled of generators, cash registers, a toolbox and other valuables.
• A Nissan Sentra was stolen from Queen Avenue.
• A guesthouse in Anzac was targeted by a group of armed robbers. A man arrived at the front gate at around 02:15 and told the receptionist he wanted to book a room.
When the receptionist opened the gate, three men armed with guns confronted him. They took the receptionist inside and demanded money.
The receptionist handed over a R50 note from his pocket, claiming it was all the money on the premises.
He was pistol-whipped by the robbers who insisted he was lying and continued to demand money.
One of the robbers then went to search the rooms and returned after robbing a guest of a cellphone and a staff member of R250.
The robbers also took two TVs and the receptionist’s cellphones. Two other guests were also reportedly robbed of personal possessions. One guest was also assaulted. A business robbery docket was opened.
