Mall@Carnival robot repair delayed due to control box wait
The control box has been ordered, but there is reportedly a backlog due to high demand.
A shortage of control boxes is the reason for the delay in a project where the Mall@Carnival adopted the traffic light intersection at the intersection of the Airport and Heidelberg roads.
As reported in the Brakpan Herald’s February 5 edition, the goal of the project was to, once the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport repaired the lights, move the control box onto the premises of the mall to safeguard it.
Cameras would also be installed and monitored around the clock by several entities. This ‘adopt and protect’ agreement is the first of its kind in Ekurhuleni, following the example of Fourways Mall.
In February, the estimated turnaround time for repairing the lights was four weeks, but to date, they made no repairs.

According to the mall’s centre manager Erna Vermaak, a recent meeting with the department and Mbali Seheri, director of stakeholder management of the roads department, shed some light on the reason for the delay.
Reportedly, the control box necessary for the repairs was ordered but not delivered yet because of a shortage of control boxes in the province.
These are often the target of vandals and thieves, meaning numerous non-functioning traffic lights require a new box.
There is, at this stage, no set turnaround time, but repairs will commence when the ordered control box is delivered.
