Dalpark Independent School’s Big Walk combines fitness and fun

The family-orientated event provided a day of exercise, entertainment and plenty of excitement.

Learners, parents, staff and members of the community took to the streets of Dalpark Ext 6 on Saturday in support of Dalpark Independent School’s Big Walk.

While the skies were overcast, the weather played nice after days of rain, allowing families to enjoy a fun-filled day out.

The course in this annual fundraising event was just under 5km and over 300 participants joined in for some exercise and good old-fashioned fun.

Oz the crested eagle is the school’s much-loved mascot.

The first 20 participants to cross the finish line each received a certificate.

After the walk, the festivities continued on the school grounds where attendees enjoyed a market and a variety of fun activities including Giant Jenga (a life-size version of the popular game), croquet and a jumping castle.

There was also plenty of tasty food and treats, live music by Devan Heart, a scavenger hunt, a family dance-off competition, a 360-degree view photo booth, face painting, a visit from the school’s mascot – Oz the crested eagle – and all sorts of fun goodies up for sale at the different stalls.
