Fight against illegal mining continues
Four arrests were made and illegal mining equipment was confiscated.

The SANDF assisted local SAPS and other law enforcement stakeholders during an operation in Brakpan on Monday aimed at clamping down on illegal mining activities.
Other role players included Ekurhuleni Central police stations, crime intelligence, the public order policing unit, crime prevention wardens and local private security companies. Brakpan SAPS Vispol commander Colonel Robert Makopo was the operation commander.
“The main objective was to intercept the ongoing illegal mining activities within the precinct,” said Brakpan SAPS communications officer Constable Audrey Buthelezi.
“The battalions dispersed to the identified illegal mining spots with the intention of showing no mercy and aiming to leave no stone unturned.”

Law enforcers visited old mining shafts behind Plastic City and in Brakpan North, far into the veld near Oval Road, as well as those next to Location Road.
“Four illegal immigrants were arrested, and 23 people, 15 motor vehicles and eight premises were searched throughout the Brakpan policing precinct,” continued Buthelezi.
“From the illegal mining hotspots, law enforcers confiscated wheelbarrows, water pumps, shovels, picks, generators and other items used in illegal mining activities.”
Makopo extended his gratitude towards the joint forces and welcomed the successes. He further cited satisfaction in the operation’s outcome, which he believes has sent a strong message to criminals that lawlessness will never be tolerated.
