Minnebron residents come together for fun walk
It was the first of many future events aimed at strengthening the community.
From Minnebron 4 Minnebron, a new initiative aimed at fostering a healthy community and supporting the needy, held their first event on Saturday.
The 5km fun walk saw a group of Minnebron residents taking a walk through the streets of the suburb. There was no timekeeping or winners.
It was encouraged to walk with someone you didn’t know, and use the opportunity to get to know them.
This event was free to participate in, but future events might carry a minimal fee, to put towards a planned soup kitchen for the community.

Fun walks are not the only events in planning, but soccer and rugby are also activities that will be hosted in the field across from BuyRite.
The hope is to foster both physical and social health in the community, connect neighbours with each other and have fun in the process.
They also want to create chaperone clubs to supervise children playing in the streets, allowing them to get out and ride their bicycles or play safely.

This fun walk followed all official channels too, as EMPD, SAPS and Shades of Red Enterprises provided assistance and supervision.
Shades of Red provide medical assistance and first aid for events, and are in contact with ER24.
The course itself was moderate enough, even for beginners or the unfit, and the convenience of the start and end at the BuyRite was a happy coincidence, as walkers could buy something to drink before or after completing the course.
Organisers Stanley Kelly and Rachel Adams invite the community of Minnebron to join in on the fun at future events, and thanks all the stakeholders involved in making the event a success.
