Motorist hijacked in driveway, another pushed from scooter

Two hijackings in Brakpan in one morning.

A motorist and a scooter rider were robbed of their vehicles in separate hijackings in Brakpan on Friday.

According to information received from Brakpan police, the first incident took place at an address along Grobler Street in Brenthurst just after 06:00.

The victim, driving a silver Volkswagen Polo, was leaving home and had briefly stepped out of the car to close the garage door and gate.

A dark grey Mazda 3 stopped behind the victim’s car and four men climbed out of the vehicle. The men, one of whom was armed with a gun, instructed the victim to hand over the car keys.

The victim complied, and one of the men searched him for valuables and took his cellphone.

The hijackers then fled in the Polo. Just after 11:00, a motorcyclist was forced off his Big Boy Scooter near the Plastic City informal settlement.

The victim was approaching the traffic circle in Anzac when four men walked into the road. The men instructed him to stop, with one pointing a gun at the victim.

The victim stopped and was pushed off the scooter, and left in the road. The men then disappeared into the settlement with the scooter.

Both incidents are under investigation by local SAPS.
