Hijacked motorbike recovered due to quick response
Crime prevention members and private security personnel recovered the stolen motorcycle within minutes.
Brakpan SAPS Crime Prevention Unit members responded swiftly to a call for help when a motorcyclist was hijacked at gunpoint by three men near the Plastic City informal settlement on Monday.
Constables Elwin Davis and Ashley Korasie received an alert on one of the security WhatsApp groups and immediately headed towards Plastic City. On their way they requested backup, and Secure Tech Security and Graphite Private Security responded.
The SAPS members entered the informal settlement on foot, following trails of the hijacked bike, which led them to a shack.
The shack was forced open and there was no one inside, but the stolen bike was recovered. The victim was present and positively identified the bike as his, while the hijackers were nowhere to be found.

On Sunday, another rider was hijacked of his motorbike at gunpoint along nearby Oval Road. This victim also identified three men with firearms as the culprits.
“Police are urging the public to be extra cautious, especially when traveling around Plastic City, and are appealing to road users to take alternative routes,” said Brakpan SAPS Sector 1 manager and communications officer Constable Audrey Buthelezi.
Station commander Brigadier Johanna Ngoma applauded the crime prevention members’ swift reaction and welcomed their successful recovery of the bike.
She further extended gratitude towards the private security companies for their quick response to the backup request.
