SAPS give talk at Dalpark Primary for Child Protection Week

The Brakpan SAPS collaborated with relevant stakeholders to present the talk.

Brakpan SAPS worked with stakeholders to conduct a school talk at Dalpark Primary School on June 3 to commemorate National Child Protection Week. This special week is observed from May 29 to June 5.

SAPS Sector 1 manager and communications officer Constable Audrey Buthelezi educated the learners on child trafficking and how to avoid falling victim. She emphasised that learners should not entertain strangers.

Buthelezi discouraged stealing and encouraged respect. EMPD social crime prevention warden Mpho Mogapi spoke about road safety, using songs to explain the traffic light colours. His colleague, Thembi Mabote, addressed the learners about bullying.

A South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (SANCA) representative spoke about the dangers of drugs and alcohol and how they negatively affect learners’ lives and studies.

The Learner Representative Council (LRC) used colourful charts to explain the types of bullying and what individuals should do if they are bullied or witness bullying.

More than 300 learners attended the talk, and the school principal thanked all the stakeholders in attendance. Stakeholders involved included: SAPS, the EMPD Social Crime Prevention Unit, crime prevention wardens, the GBV Brigade, SANCA, and the Ekurhuleni Women Directorate office.
