Youth Day spirit shines in soccer, netball friendlies

Brakpan’s Youth Day was marked with spirited soccer and netball showdowns in the Mgongo informal settlement, bringing together community teams for a day of sport, unity and celebration

Youth Day came alive with energy and camaraderie at the Mgongo informal settlement on Location Road, where soccer and netball teams gathered for a series of friendly matches that delivered trophies and bragging rights.

Now in its third year, the Youth Day Sports Tournament is a growing tradition that inspires and unites young people in the community. Eight teams participated in the friendlies, showcasing fierce competition and a strong community spirit.

The final scores:

Soccer:
*U11 Brakpan United 1-3 Supernova;
*U13 Brakpan United 3-1 Supernova;
*U15 Brakpan United 0-1 Supernova;
*U17 Brakpan United 1-0 Supernova;
*Open Brakpan United 2-1 Marashiya.

Netball:
*U11 Brakpan United 2-4 Supernova;
*U13 Brakpan United 5-1 Shooting Stars;
*U15 Brakpan United 3-2 Supernova.

In the open, the Dolphins Academy and Shooting Stars competed, though the results went unrecorded.

Event organiser David Makhalemele thanked sponsors and participants for their role in making the day a success, “I thank Shield for Boys and Girls for showing up and sponsoring products, as well as all the teams and people who came to support our games.”
