Four arrested for speeding on R23: Highest clocked at 130km/h
Speeding enforcement leads to arrests as EMPD cracks down on road safety.
EMPD High Speed Unit officers arrested four men between the ages of 31 and 42 near Dalpark Ext 1 on August 6 for exceeding the speed limit.
According to CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, the set up of high-speed monitoring equipment to monitor motorists’ compliance on the R23 (Heidelberg Road) and Viking Road, led to the arrest of the four, who were driving beyond the designated speed limit of 80km/h.
Among the drivers of a brown Ford, black Mercedes-Benz, white VW Polo, and white Isuzu stopped by officers, the highest speed recorded was 130km/h.
None of the drivers provided the officers with a valid reason for speeding. They were then placed under arrest for exceeding the speed limit.
The drivers were detained at the Brakpan Police Station and are expected to appear in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court soon.
The EMPD appeals to motorists to practice caution and to adhere to speed limits on the roadways as speeding is one of the major causes of road fatalities in the city.
