ExED Private School inaugurates student executive council

The council has been acting as leaders for six months but is now officially recognised.

ExED Private School officially inaugurated its student executive council at a formal event on the evening of August 6.

The theme for the inauguration was ‘Being a lamp in dark times and a leader that serves’. The event was opened by head boy Keanu Liebish with a scripture reading and head girl Karla Potgieter with a prayer.

Following this, Student Executive Representative Chad Pienaar delivered a speech about the metaphorical lamps each member of the council should light.

“The first lamp is integrity, the second Godly love, and the third is joy. One shouldn’t just light the lamp and walk away, but live the light every day and in every situation,” Chad said.

After the opening, the council recited their oath together, then each signed it individually and stood on the red carpet to have their badges pinned by a parent.

Following this, they were addressed by Pastor Johnny de Almeida, a pastor, chaplain, and urban missionary. He spoke about what makes a leader, saying: “You’re not just bosses, you’re not just leaders, you’re servant leaders.

“Being a leader is being brave enough to serve someone who won’t give you anything in return, and failure isn’t the end, just the steps to success.”
