16 suspects arrested for possession and illegal immigration

EMPD drug enforcement and K9 units crack down in Ekurhuleni

The EMPD deployed its Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) and K9 Unit officers against alleged drug peddlers across the city, resulting in 16 arrests btween August 19 and 20.

Acting on information about individuals suspected of selling illicit substances in their communities, officers arrested 12 adults – one female and 11 males – aged between 20 and 46. They were found in possession of cat, crystal meth, Mandrax, cannabis, and a black plastic bag containing cannabis.

The confiscated drugs are estimated to be worth around R10 000. Four of the 16 arrested males were also apprehended for being in the country illegally.

All suspects were taken to their respective police stations and now face charges of possession and dealing in illegal substances, as well as illegal immigration. They are expected to appear in the magistrate’s courts soon.
